The Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui directed and starred YUPPIE FANTASIA 3 (SIU NAM YUN JAU GEI 3 ji NG GA YAU HEI) became the Year of the Rooster Lunar New Year film. Brother Tan along with the cast Chrissie Chau Sau Na, BabyJohn Choi Hong Yik and Larine Tang Yueping wished everyone a Happy New Year. Brother Tan wished for even more Hong Kong films to appear this year. The single Sister Na looked forward to the little man of her heart to appear.

Brother Tan carried the "Lunar New Year film" banner for the first time so he had certain psychological pressure. Instead Sister Na and BabyJohn had Lunar New Year film experience. BabyJohn felt that the Lunar New Year was the time for film to blossom in variety. The audience would not be selective and would want to see every one. He hoped that everything would be good for everyone. Brother Tan agreed, "When four or five Lunar New Year films were released they were all critical and commercial hits. Many classic films were Lunar New Year films. To me making a Lunar New Year film was a stressful, so I had to call in favors from friends. I asked the Grasshoppers, Cheng Yi Kin, Cheung Chi Lam to guest star." Brother Tan said, "I sent my bath scene with Sister Na to Ekin in protest, of course I didn't tell him to come and watch. Otherwise he would have jumped in too." He said that he really had nothing bad to say about Cheung Chi Lam, Chilam in the film played a traffic cop. Brother Tan remembered that day they shot outside Cyberport but they ran into a storm. When Chilam arrived the storm warning was yellow, in make up it was red. When they took his mark the warning was already black. Finally this scene was shot under a narrow overpass. After the shoot he was in a three hour traffic jam back to the city. It was very memorable.

Brother Tan's on screen daughter Larine revealed, "In this scene I had to show my midriff. After the shoot I went to the hospital but not for a cold. The reason was that I heard black coffee could ease bloating. During make up at 4AM I had four black coffee. After over a week I ended up with a hole in my stomach. At first after pain at night I thought I was fine. Finally I couldn't take it anymore, went to the hospital and found out it was a big deal. I needed surgery to take care of it."

Brother Tan smacked the table out of rage and said, "You tell everyone what you did before getting out of the hospital." Tang Yueping said apologetically, "I had baked pork chop and rice." Brother Tan turned into a strict father. "She just got off the IR and had gastroscopy, yet she went to have baked pork chop and rice. I still want to slap her now." Larine after her release had a hospital scene, in which she also had baked pork chop and rice. This time she played herself exactly.

Brother Tan yelled at his "daughter" but actually really took care of her. When she returned to work he gave her caterpillar fungus and lingzhi mushroom and reminded her to take them everyday. Was Sister Na jealous? Brother Tan said, "I gave all of me to her, she has plenty at home. If I give them to her I am afraid that she would put them away and not use them." Sister Na said, "I want them, hurry up and give them to me."

As for his New Year's wish, Brother Tan wished that everyone would be like the film poster -- always with a smile; and for even more Hong Kong films to appear in the future. Sister Na did not expect the film would be a Lunar New Year film, she wished that everyone would happily watch the comedy, which was also the best New Year present. She would like to find someone like Brother Tan, a big man on the outside and a little man at home, with Brother Tan's intelligence, talent and knew how to cheer people up. Thus it would be difficult. Was age not a problem? Brother Tan joked that he would smack the table and leave. Sister Na said that age was not an issue. She liked mature men. However she would also appreciate "Young Fresh Meat" too.

[2017.01.30] JOURNEY TO THE WEST 2 PASSES 500 MILLION RMB IN CHINA

JOURNEY TO THE WEST: THE DEMONS STRIKE BACK reaches 500 million RMB in two days and may pass MERMAID
courtesy of mingpao.com

This year the Hong Kong and China Lunar New Year box office went to the Stephen Chow Sing Chi produced, Tsui Hark directed JOURNEY TO THE WEST: THE DEMONS STRIKE BACK; yesterday on the Lunar 2nd its Mainland two day box office was already at 500 million RMB, with hopes to break Sing Yeh's MERMAID and its 3.389 billion box office record. From the Lunar New Year's Eve late show and the Lunar New Year's Day opening box office the film accumulated over HK$ 5.6 million. With yesterday's single day box office (as of 8PM) of HK$ 3.38 million, the film will soon pass HK$ 10 million and have no difficulty to become the Year of the Rooster Hong Kong box office champion.

The heavily contested Lunar New Year slot of the past 4 to 5 years was not popular this year. The only Hong Kong film was the Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui and Chrissie Chau Sau Na starred YUPPIE FANTASIA 3 (SIU NAM YUN JAU 3 GEI ji NG GA YAU HE). Among the foreign films were RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER and the Oscar favorite LA LA LAND. In the Mainland many film companies would rather avoid direct confrontation and dividing up everyone's box office. With less films fighting over the slot, the Mainland Spring Festival opening box office reached new heights with 800 million RMB. 3.67 million went to JOURNEY and broke Sing Yeh's MERMAID single day box office record last year. In second place was the Wang Baoqiang directed BUDDIES IN INDIA. In third place was the Jackie Chan starred Lunar New Year film KUNG FU YOGA. Both made over 100 million at the box office. In Hong Kong, JOURNEY with the Lunar New Year's Eve late shows and the New Year's Day opening accumulated HK$ 5,601,756. RESIDENT EVIL THE FINAL CHAPTER tightly followed with HK$ 2.8 million. YUPPIE FANTASIA after 3 days in release made around HK$ 3 million.

Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui yesterday led Larine Tang Yueping, Hedwig Tam Sin Yin, daughters Zaneta and Amanda Cheng to promote their film YUPPIE FANTASIA 3 (SIU NAM YUN JAU GEI 3 ji NG GA YAU HEI) at the wishing tree in Tai Po. Ah Tan said that while visiting on the Lunar New Year's Day, he received film company box office announcements. At first he was very nervous. He was very happy to learn in the end that the cinemas were sold out. He said, "From the Lunar 29th to the New Year's Day, the film had over 3 million over 3 days or over 1 million per day. With such a good performance for my first Lunar New Year film, I am very excited!" He also said that his on screen daughter Tang Yueping brought the film luck.

Ah Tan said that he never thought about the box office, the most important was for the audience to have fun and good word of mouth. I hoped that the film would perform well and the boss would be pleased, then he would have a bonus. Has he considered a sequel? Ah Tan said to Tang Yueping, "She is a star now, I have to ask her if she would have any time to make it." Tang Yueping said, "When Brother Tan asks, I would work even for no salary."

Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, Korean star Jung Yong-Hwa and Michelle Wai Sze Nga two nights ago attended their film COOK UP A STORM (KUET JIN SIK SUN) charity premiere at Causeway Bay. Emperor boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing, executive producer Mani Fok Man Hei, producer Manfred Wong (Man Jun) and director Raymond Yip Wai Man promoted the film. A five minute confidential video was shown. To celebrate the Lunar New Year in advanced, actors and guests performed a "Lo Hei" ceremony!

When Jung Yong-Hwa appeared, he greeted everyone in Cantonese. "Hi everyone, I am Jung Yong-Hwa". Fans screamed all over. Ting Fung also wished everyone an early Happy New Year and said that eating was the most important. I wished that everyone would get to eat. On the stage Ting Fung also fed Jung Yong-Hwa Hong Kong snacks like eggettes and fish balls. Jung Yong-Hwa praised in Putonghua after tasting, "Very delicious!"

Ting Fung praised Jung Yong-Hwa as a professional actor. The first he met him, he saw how he cut cucumbers in the kitchen and knew that he trained hard before. Jung Yong-Hwa revealed that during practice he cut himself, because on camera the hardest part was to perform his expertise on cooking. He also said that aside from Ting Fung's apple pie, he also tried roast pork. If one day Ting Fung would open a restaurant, he would definitely visit everyday.

Ting Fung was asked if he would consider opening a restaurant. He stated that he has not thought about it. "With my personality I would keep my eye on the food 24 hours a day. The boss would complain about my lack of music and movies. Now instead I am pretty free, when I have time I would be a cuisine consultant or guest chef. Instead I have even more space. I am trying to merge food with film and television, for example my cookie making, CHEF NIC is already in its third season, and this film. The Chef Nic brand is starting to mature, I want to use a different style to keep it going."

Speaking of rumors that his father Patrick Tse Yin becoming a father again, Ting Fung said, "I heard about it, it's funny! I didn't ask him, I told my sister to. He sent me a few foul language replies like you are X crazy! (So humorous?) Are you calling me or the person who passed the message humorous? (What was your reaction?) Just like what he told me."

Jung Yong-Hwa said that after first taking the role he began practicing cutting. He practiced for four to five months but he did not study with anyone. He only relied on chef videos. He was not injured until later in the shoot when he got a little careless. Jung Yong-Hwa also said that he would not care whether his future girlfriend or wife would be able to cook, since he would be able to cook for her too.

Wai Sze Nga revealed that she gained five pounds during the shoot. "In the film I had to pretend to taste, but often after the camera stopped rolling I still put the food in my mouth. Sometimes Ting Fung would cook and I would finish before leaving work." She said that she asked Ting Fung about how to make salt water chicken wings. "I want to cook it for my boyfriend, but after he had it we broke up. Maybe I missed something and added a little more salt. I will review it!"

[2017.01.27] STEPHEN CHOW AND TSUI HARK OFTEN TRADE JABS OVER JOURNEY 2

courtesy of singtao.com
courtesy of on.cc

Stephen Chow Sing Chi, director Tsui Hark and Mainland actor Kris Wu Yifan were guests on Cable's Film Montage for their film JOURNEY TO THE WEST: THE DEMONS STRIKE BACK. Everyone knew about the JOURNEY TO THE WEST characters, but Sing Yeh named "Young Fresh Meat" Wu Yifan to the role of Tang Monk. When asked for the reason Sing Yeh said, "Of course it's acting. Other than acting, what else does he have? Handsome? I don't think so!" Sing Yeh pointed at Tsui Hark and said, "How can you even compare!"

Tsui Hark said, "I like him for his looks, he looks even better bald!" Sing Yeh covered his mouth and snickered. "The director's opinion is certain to be different, we have a lot of differences but having differences is a good thing! For example he said since everyone who made JOURNEY TO THE WEST used special effects, we wouldn't. Aren't we screwed!" What was different about the new film and other JOURNEY films? Sing Yeh said, "Aside from no special effect, actually nothing is different!"

Wu Yifan was very excited and honored to be able to work with two film industry heavyweights Sing Yeh and Tsui Hark. He said that they were rather demanding. When asked how high his demands were, Sing Yeh looked at the ceiling and said, "It's higher than here!"

Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, Jung Yong-Hwa and Michelle Wai Sze Nga starred in the film COOK UP A STORM (KUET JIN SIK SUN), which will open on February 10th in Hong Kong. Yesterday the trio promoted their new film with a HK$ 10,000 dish of beef chow fun to raise fund for charity at a Central street stall. Yong-Hwa said that while acting with Ting Fung they had no language barrier, they were even unable to get the take in one try.

Ting Fung said that he made "crispy beef tendon chow fun", which he has improved upon and could not be had at other street stalls. He even made at least three dishes and used black truffle salt, making them even more valuable. Finally each dish of the beef chow fun was sold for HK$ 10,000 to raise fund for Redford Charitable Foundation. Yong-Hwa and Sze Nga gave away cookies to the guests.

Later Ting Fung sad that he really liked the street stall's cooking sounds and cheerful atmosphere. When he was little and lived in Shatin he often went to the nearby Lung Hang Estate's street stalls. Ting Fung also revealed that he tried cooking with the street stall stove top, which he joked was like catching bugs. "Today I am dumb, I wore a pair of torn pants here. When I turned on the stove top with my leg, suddenly I felt very hot."

Playing an assistant in the film, Wai Sze Nga said that she was responsible for tasting today. She tried a piece of beef tendon. "A dish of beef tendon chow fun costs HK$ 10,000, I had a piece that must be worth HK$ 1,000." She said that it felt like beef jerky. Ting Fung said that the beef tendon was full of collagen, which was good for girls' skin. This time he used a healthier way to cook, so the collagen was preserved even better.

Did Sze Nga learn cooking from Ting Fung? She stated, "During the shoot Ting Fung really cooked, I learned but it was too complicated. I gave up. What was the most amazing about him was that he made the food as pretty as artwork." Suddenly she even asked if Ting Fung accepted students. Ting Fung smiled but did not answer.

Yong-Hwa said that making COOK UP A STORM made him interested in cooking, now pasta was his best dish. Did he want to learn any New Year dish? Yong-Hwa stated, "I really want to learn, I want to learn to make dumplings the most." Did he learn from Ting Fung? He praised Ting Fung on his apple tart, which was so delicious that he still remembered it today. Ting Fung immediately said that it was very easy to make and could teach Yong-Hwa. "I also made an online platform to teach everyone to cook both Chinese and foreign dishes."

In the film they had a scene in which they had three and a half pages of dialogue. Ting Fung said that he spoke Chinese while Yong-Hwa spoke Korean. Although they did not understand each other, they only rehearsed once before and he was worried, that scene did not end up in a bad take due to language problem. How did Yong-Hwa perform without understanding? He stated, "I didn't understand Ting Fung's lines, I relied on remembering Ting Fung's expressions and tone during rehearsal to follow along."

Later, Ting Fung was asked about the Mainland media's photo of him kissing Faye Wong on the cheek at the airport. He answered, "Really! Oh! (You guys are so sweet!) Oh!" Will they spend the Lunar New Year together? He stated, "I am not answering questions like those." However he said that he will remain in Hong Kong for the Lunar New Year, then he will promote the film on the 18 city tour.

The Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui written, directed and starred Lunar New Year film YUPPIE FANTASIA 3 (SIU NAM YUN JAU GEI 3 ji NG GA YAU HEI) held a premiere two nights ago. Attendees included Chrissie Chau Sau Na, Larine Tang Yueping, Louis Cheung Kai Chung, Babyjohn Choi Hong Yik and Hedwig Tam Sin Yin. Charmaine Sheh Si Man and Angie Shum Yat Ka also showed their support.

Lead actress Sister Na said that many goddesses have appeared in the two previous installments. Earlier when Ah Tan asked her to play a goddess she declined. Later the character was different and she agreed. She also revealed in one scene she had to be on top of Brother Tan. "At the time I was afraid of crushing him, so I ate less before." Did Brother Tan deliberately arranged this scene for himself? He said, "I didn't just make this scene for myself, directors can have their own say like this. Since Sister Na agreed, she knew that I wasn't trying to 'take advantage'. The story required it."

Tang Yueping sad that she made the dress herself. She has always like to make clothes and would improve on the clothes she bought. Later she will take a fashion design course in hopes of making her own label.

She kept fixing her dress on the stage, was she afraid of wardrobe malfunction? She said, "Actually I was very nervous about the movie. It was the first time I watched it. Earlier during editing I was a little displeased with my own voice work, but no matter good or bad I hope everyone would give me more suggestions. The best would be taking a few more stomps at me, which would make me grow up faster." Would she take the baton from Sister Na as a sexy goddess? She praised Sister Na's sexiness as coming from within. She was her own sexy goddess, both pretty and well rounded. She was a worthy role model. She wanted to become a "martial art action goddess" herself.

Shum Yat Ka was asked about her rumored boyfriend and record company boss Jason Wong's rumor with the pregnant Jinny Ng Yeuk Hei. She was shocked to see the report and said that the published birthday photo was an old photo. She also revealed that she has been celebrating the boss' birthday in recent years with the company, but she has not seen Ng Yeuk Hei. She believed that they were probably friends.

Chrissie Chau Sau Na in the Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui starred Lunar New Year film YUPPIE FANTASIA 3 (SIU NAM YUN JAU GEI 3 ji NG GA YAU HEI) played a sexy secretary and had many intimate scenes with Cheng Tan Shui. They even went to a hotel room for "lunch", a bed scene in sexy underwear! Chau Sau Na said, "This shoot needed the set to be cleared because the whole room could be seen in a wide shot. We also had two teams; each time after one shot the director had to exit the room because the playback monitor was in another room. After finishing he would come back to shoot again. The shoot actually wasn't easy."

Chau Sau Na said that the bed scene with Cheng Tan Shui was not awkward. Instead because they have worked together for awhile they have become familiar. When they lovingly stared at teach other they often cracked up. Cheng Tan Shui thanked Chau Sau Na for trusting him. "In the film Sister Na was my secretary and my secret lover. She quit in the hotel room, which was rather absurd. However I already wrote it in the script long ago. During table read I explained it very clearly, so she was very at ease with leaving the entire matter to me. Instead I was the one who was nervous, I didn't want to be unworthy of her trust in me."
